Blane Lewis joined the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy in 2014. He is the former Director of ANU’s Indonesia Project (2016-2023) and former Lead Editor of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (2015-2024). His research focuses on issues related to intergovernmental fiscal relations, local public finance, and local political economy in Indonesia. He supervises Arndt-Corden PhD students and teaches Crawford’s graduate course on Quantitative Policy Impact Evaluation (IDEC8026).

Before joining ANU, Blane worked for many years as a policy adviser in Indonesia, mostly on intergovernmental fiscal relations and decentralization, with Harvard Institute for International Development, Research Triangle Institute, and World Bank, among others. He has worked in a number of other developing and transition countries, including Bangladesh, Belize, Congo, Egypt, Haiti, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Niger, Philippines, Poland, Togo, and Vietnam. Blane has also taught at Cornell University and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
