Gender-based violence in Indonesia has increased during the pandemic. LBH APIK (Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Asosiasi Perempuan Indonesia untuk Keadilan - Legal Aid by Association of Women for Justice), recorded 1178 cases of gender-based domestic violence in Indonesia in 2020 compared with 794 cases in 2019.
Siti Husna, an advocate from LBH APIK, will share her organisation’s experience in handling domestic violence cases during the pandemic. Alimatul Qibtiyah, a Commissioner at Komnas Perempuan (National Commission on Violence Against Women), will discuss relevant national data and Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, Lecturer on Gender Law and Victimology from Universitas Gadjah Mada, will look at the development of law and practice that leads to restorative justice for gender-based domestic violence victims.
